Phacoemulsification Simulator - Virtual Reality
Description
PhacoVision provides sophisticated simulation as a virtual cataract training in a safe environment. The surgeon has either a monitor or a microscope showing the virtual microscope image. The surgeon has the same look, feel and sound as in real life, except that the patient is virtual. Data feedback is presented and a score is given immediately after surgery. PhacoVision was developed in close cooperation with Linkoping University Hospital and Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Skills
- Phaco Emulsification
- Lens Cracking
- Aspiration of lens material
- A mathmatical model keeps track of everything ranging from lens behavior through microscope focus, chamber pressure and so on.
- Before the operation, it is possible to configure several parameters, such as level of cataract, strength of zonula etc.
- Aspiration, irrigation and phaco power is controlled by a standard phaco pedal
- The operation is performed under a microscope where zoom, focus and x/y positioning is controlled by a standard microscope pedal*
*PhacoVision can also be equipped with a custom built microscope where stereo vision is possible for increased realism.
Features
- Sophisticated Simulation
- Excellent as a complement to wet labs
- More realistic lens behavior than cadaver or pig eyes
- Training is repeatable and always available
- Objective assessment of the resident
- Practice the whole procedure or concentrate on the hard parts
- No tedious eye preparations which enables efficient training
- So easy to use that it saves the valuable time of other staff
- Prepared to be used for controlled studies, all data can easily be saved and exported to statistical programs
- Microscope with stereo optics
