TraumaVision Medical VR Simulator
Description
TraumaVision is a medical VR simulator, which offers an excellent possibility for training in all types of Orthopaedic Surgery using simulated fluoroscopy in a safe environment. Typical examples are femoral surgery, spine surgery, upper extremity surgery and new orthopedic techniques.
During surgery, pedals are used to activate the radiation and a fluoroscopy image is presented on a screen in the same way as in real surgery. The fluoroscopy machine is positioned using the simulator interface and the image is updated accordingly. It is possible to choose between mono- and bi-planar fluoroscopy. A handle represents the instruments used and it is connected to a force feedback device that generates appropriate haptic feedback forces in accordance to the actions that are taken and the tissues that are encountered. Every new instrument needed for the surgery is handed to the learner by a virtual assistant.
After surgery measured performance data is presented. The results of the operation is displayed with the implants in a semitransparent bone and the measurement points clearly marked. TramaVision is a complete interactive environment for learning. Running statistics on the learners performance metrics over repeated trials can be used to assess improvement.
